Ontario Increasing Local Emergency Preparedness in Woolwich Township

May 8, 2026

Province investing in emergency equipment and training to protect communities

Woolwich —The government is taking action to protect Ontario by investing $44,306.83 in Woolwich to help prepare for and respond to emergencies. Funding is being delivered through the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant (CEPG), which strengthens emergency preparedness by helping communities improve their local resilience.

“This investment through the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant means families and neighbours across Woolwich Township can feel confident knowing their local organizations have the tools and training they need when it matters most,” said MPP Mike Harris, Kitchener-Conestoga. “I’m proud to see our government making these meaningful investments right here at home.”

Woolwich will use this funding to addresses some of the equipment deficiencies the Township has that relates to road emergency response including signage, barricades, cones, sandbags and generators. By purchasing an enhanced emergency response equipment & infrastructure for road closures, funding will contribute to faster response times, improved public safety, and greater resilience in the face of environmental and infrastructural challenges as a result of climate change.

“Our government is strengthening the readiness of local communities and organizations to better prepare for any type of emergency,” said Jill Dunlop, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Response. “Whether it’s modernizing an emergency operations centre or investing in a generator to power a warming centre during a winter storm, these investments help to protect communities across Ontario.”

“This funding will help Woolwich Township strengthen our emergency preparedness and response capabilities to better protect residents during severe weather and other unexpected events. Investments in critical equipment like generators, barricades, signage and emergency supplies will improve public safety and help ensure our community remains resilient in the face of growing environmental and infrastructure challenges. We appreciate the Province of Ontario’s support through the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant and its continued commitment to helping municipalities prepare for emergencies.”
