Funding Supports New Waterloo Region Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic

WATERLOO REGION – The Ontario government is providing $910,660 annually to Waterloo Region Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics in Breslau to help more patients in the community access primary care services such as family doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, and other frontline professionals.

“The Waterloo Region Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic has a proven track record, and I am confident this expertise will go a very long way in supporting families and individuals in Breslau with their primary health care needs,” said Mike Harris, Member of Provincial Parliament for Kitchener-Conestoga. “Expanding access to these high-quality services locally will benefit the community and help reduce hallway healthcare in our hospitals.”

This funding is part of the government’s investment of $6.2 million across 32 primary care teams to improve access to primary care in high-need communities across the province. These interprofessional primary care organizations and nursing stations bring together a diverse group of health care professionals to help meet the individual and often complex needs of patients.

“Our government is committed to ensuring Ontarians have access to primary care when and where they need it,” said Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “This funding will benefit vulnerable Ontarians in communities across the province as we continue building a better, connected health care system focused on the needs of patients.”

Interprofessional primary care teams help patients with their specific health care goals and needs. This investment will help improve access to comprehensive, interprofessional primary care for thousands of vulnerable patients, including Indigenous people, seniors, and individuals with complex or chronic conditions.

“We are so grateful to MPP Mike Harris and to the Ontario government for the increased funding that will allow us to expand the provision of high quality, patient-centered primary health care in the region,” said Leanne Terry, Administrative Lead of the Waterloo Region Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic. “WRNPLC will bring its high level of patient satisfaction to the delivery of primary care to registered patients of all ages and stages in the growing community of Breslau.”
