WATERLOO — The Ontario government is investing $5,100,000.00 in critical infrastructure to facilitate the construction of up to 4,497 new homes in Waterloo. The funding is being delivered through the Housing-Enabling Core Servicing Stream under the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, which includes $400 million to help build, repair and maintain municipal roads, bridges and culverts that will promote housing growth in communities across Ontario.
“Our government continues to invest in the infrastructure necessary to support growing communities across the province,” said MPP Mike Harris. “Thanks to the Housing Enabling Core Servicing System, we are ensuring that communities in the region, and across the province, are equipped with reliable roadways and essential services to continue building more homes”.
The City of Waterloo will use the $5,100,000 in funding for the reconstruction and urbanization of Conservation Drive and Beaver Creek Road. This project will enable the creation of up to 4,497 new homes in Waterloo.
The government is also investing $175 million to launch the Health and Safety Water Stream under the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program. This new stream will support projects that will protect homes and create resilient communities by building, rehabilitating and expanding aging water, wastewater, stormwater, flood and erosion infrastructure.
Through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program and the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund, Ontario is providing nearly $2 billion to support housing- and community-enabling infrastructure and build more homes across the province.
“With this provincial funding, we are happy to move forward with stage one of the Beaver Creek road infrastructure and take the next step towards the development of 4,000 homes for Waterloo,” said Mayor Dorothy McCabe, “We look forward to continuing to work with the province on stage two of this development.”
